About
I am writing to express my strong interest in joining the nuclear industry as an apprentice. I am currently studying A Levels in maths, physics and history, and I am keen to pursue a career pathway that combines my academic interests with hands‑on experience.
In July 2025, I completed work experience that allowed me to explore some of the different engineering disciplines, including civil, electrical, and mechanical engineering, quantity surveying as well as project management.
I have developed a range of skills during my time in the scout movement, part-time work, and hobbies that I believe would enable me to add value. My strengths include problem solving, planning, decision making, communication, collaboration, and commitment. I had the opportunity to be lead scout at several annual camps, I was responsible for planning activities, organising equipment, planning and costing meals, managing group responsibilities, and ensuring safety at all times. These experiences helped me learn how to coordinate a team effectively, delegate tasks based on strengths, and work efficiently under time pressure. I particularly enjoyed the technical and creative challenges set by scout leaders, where we had to design and build structures using limited materials. These tasks required lateral thinking, innovation, and teamwork. In 2023, I was proud to lead my group to win the overall District Camp challenge.
A significant personal achievement was collaborating with fellow scouts to plan and execute a two‑day expedition involving a twenty-one‑mile bike ride and a twenty‑mile hike. This required route planning, meal planning and preparation, equipment organisation, and constant awareness of safety considerations. These experiences taught me accountability, resilience, and the importance of risk assessment, qualities that are essential in engineering environments.
My part‑time employment at the Bridge Inn and Candy Cabs has helped me develop strong customer‑facing communication skills and the ability to remain calm and organised in a busy environment. Working collaboratively with kitchen and bar staff also strengthened my teamwork skills and attention to detail.
I am confident using IT tools such as Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint, and I have experience with CAD software from my Level 2 BTEC Engineering qualification, where I designed a hammer and mobile phone stand. I also own a 3D resin printer, which I use to print models.
I am a dedicated and motivated learner, currently attending additional Maths and Physics lessons to achieve the best possible grades. I am also committed to my hobbies, such as wargaming, where perseverance has led to my first tournament win, and my ambition is to compete and win a tournament at national level. These experiences demonstrate my determination, discipline, and willingness to continually improve.
I am enthusiastic about the opportunity to bring my skills, passion, and commitment to the nuclear industry. I believe that my practical experience and strong teamwork abilities would make me a valuable addition to an apprenticeship program.
