Help shape the future of nuclear safety
The nuclear industry is evolving rapidly as it supports energy security, net zero ambitions and the safe decommissioning of existing facilities. The Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR) is looking for experienced specialists in Probabilistic Safety Analysis (PSA) to join our Fault Analysis profession and help ensure the UK's nuclear industry continues to operate safely.
The role
You'll bring your expertise in Probabilistic Safety Analysis to regulate the UK's civil nuclear sector, with a primary focus on assessing the use of PSA within safety cases. Working alongside colleagues across the wider Fault Analysis specialism and other technical disciplines, you'll contribute to regulatory assessments while also having opportunities to undertake inspections, investigations, research projects, international work and mentoring activities.
This is an opportunity to work across one of the UK's most varied and technically challenging sectors, from advanced reactor designs and the existing reactor fleet through to fuel cycle, decommissioning and defence facilities.
About you
You'll bring:
- In-depth experience of Probabilistic Safety Analysis techniques and methodologies.
- Knowledge of the nuclear industry or another high-hazard sector.
- Strong analytical skills, with the ability to assess complex technical issues and exercise sound professional judgement.
- A degree (or equivalent) in engineering, physical sciences, mathematics or a related discipline.
- Chartered membership of a relevant professional institution, or the ability to demonstrate performance and experience at an equivalent professional level.
Why join ONR?
As part of ONR, you'll work alongside highly experienced specialists to help protect workers, the public and the environment while enabling the safe development of the UK's nuclear industry. You'll enjoy a collaborative, supportive working environment with opportunities to broaden your expertise across a diverse and fascinating range of nuclear facilities and technologies.
Please note that this role requires attendance at an in-person interview in Bootle.
