We are seeking a Senior Planner to join NWS!
The Senior Planner is a team lead role responsible for providing planning leadership across the Geological Disposal Facility (GDF) Programme, one of the country’s Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects (NSIPs). The role owns, develops and assures the integrated programme master schedule, bringing together multiple project schedules and managing interdependencies to support effective programme delivery.
The role has hard line accountability to the Controls Lead and works closely with other Project Controls disciplines to ensure the programme schedule supports robust governance, assurance and decision making, aligned with Infrastructure and Projects Authority (IPA) and Association for Project Management (APM) good practice.
The role will oversee the planning team and provide oversight, coaching and embed improvements.
- Own, develop and maintain the master integrated programme (resource and cost loaded) schedule, ensuring alignment of programme and projects with approved scope, cost, risk and benefit baselines.
- Integrate individual project schedules into a single, logic driven programme schedule with consistent coding structures, sequencing and dependency management, suitable to analyse options, scenarios and facilitate risk modelling of Schedule and Costs.
- Identify, analyse and manage internal and external programme dependencies, interfaces, milestones and constraints.
- Maintain controlled schedule baselines, resource and cost actuals, and forecasts; managing schedule change in line with NWS governance.
- Produce and present programme schedules suitable for governance, assurance, regulator and government facing use.
- Act as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) and provide administrative support for Primavera P6, with strong fundamental knowledge of its application on major programmes and projects.
- Be the programme (SME) for Portfolio, Programme and Project planning, with strong knowledge of schedule management and quality for major infrastructure programmes.
- Lead and assure the effective use of planning standards, procedures and data structures across the programme, including quality assessments.
- Drive consistency, standardisation and continuous improvement of planning and scheduling practices, aligned to Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA) Integrated Project Controls (IPC), Infrastructure and Projects Authority (IPA) and Association for Project Management (APM) best practice.
- Actively contribute to the wider NWS planning community to share learning and improve planning capability.
- Provide assurance over the quality, robustness and maturity of project and programme schedules.
- Undertake schedule analysis to support critical path, dependency management and scenario assessment.
- Provide clear planning insight and narrative to support programme performance reporting and decision making.
- Line manage and lead a team of planners, providing direction, coaching, mentoring and professional development.
- Provide oversight and assurance of team outputs, ensuring schedules and planning products are consistent, high quality and fit for purpose.
- Provide expert planning advice throughout the full project and programme lifecycle.
Knowledge, Skills & Experience
Essential
- Extensive experience leading planning and scheduling activities on large programmes, (preferably in a regulated environment).
- Strong practical knowledge of Primavera P6 and its application and administration for integrated programme and multi-project scheduling. This includes Primavera P6 PPM & EPPM, Deltek Fuse 360 and DCMA 14 Point Schedule Assessments.
- Proven experience developing and managing integrated programme schedules across multiple projects alongside a good understanding of project controls disciplines including cost, risk, change and performance reporting.
- Demonstrable experience managing dependencies, interfaces and critical paths at all levels.
- Proven experience line managing and developing planning professionals.
- Excellent communication skills, including the ability to present complex schedule information clearly, and in different formats, to senior stakeholders.
- Experience reporting schedule metrics and performance in a variety of ways to different audiances, including critical path, float erosion, earned value, etc.
- Relevant project or programme management qualification or equivalent experience (e.g. PMQ, MSP, P3M3, PRINCE2).
Desirable
- Experience of Earned Value Management and Schedule Risk Analysis on complex programmes.
- Experience in Qualitative and Quantative Risk Analysis (preferably with the software system SAFRAN)
- Experience working within heavily regulated and assured environments.
- Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g. APM).
