As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.
Year one:
- Under instruction and within training guidelines, operate/train in the use of Cullum machinery/ equipment in order to gain a good knowledge of machine capacities and metal working techniques.
- Learn and develop plating skills and increase knowledge and understanding of fabrication processes
- To carry out instructions from the Technical Service Manager and Team Leaders in all aspects of the role and produce a consistently high standard of work, meeting the targets and deadlines set by the manager and relevant training facilitators
Years two and three:
- Preparation of engineering calculations over a number of disciplines in support of detailed design schemes
- Participate in research and development activities
- Aid with the carrying out of site survey activities
- Produce sketch drawings of design concepts in sufficient detail to enable production of detail design definition drawings
- Use IT packages effectively in the course of engineering activities (Excel, Word, Mathcad, CAD, PDM, PLM, etc.)
- Interpret engineering drawings
- Interpret and implement engineering specifications and standards
- Self-development to meet new requirements
- Provide progress status reports to line management on a regular basis and work to achieve or improve company and customer objectives of program, cost and quality
- Hazard identification and risk reduction
An apprenticeship allows you to earn a wage, gain valuable work experience and industry-specific competence. You will be expected to work towards the Engineering and Manufacturing Support Technician Level 3, with support from your employer and the Chesterfield College Group.
Monday to Friday, between 8:30am - 5.00pm.
